Today at the Vicarage A

It is two years to the day since my meeting with Donbledore and Dr Unnecessary in Los Angeles. Much has happened and all of us are closer to our dreams. Donbledore has, in effect, become a film producer, with his recent funding for the "Magic Paint" documentary. Dr Unnecessary has proved that, while entirely Unnecessary in the world of serialized TV fiction (always an unhappy world for him), he is very Necessary as an independent movie maker. He has now become the back stage cameraman of choice, and was working yesterday with Madonna. Unfortunately "Dr Unnecessary" he shall remain, as "Dr Necessary" does not have the same ring to it.

Today at the Vicarage : A placeholder as I run out the door

Meanwhile, the wider world of the Vicar progresses, with Punk still threatening to write his third book online as soon as he is sober and regains the use of his hands.

A quick glance at the guestbook, before my computer crashed, would seem to indicate that I have successfully stirred up the wasp nest. I know from my personal mail that my comments about NEWAYS have not gone unnoticed. I shall return to those topics at a more leisurely moment.

My spirit is still inspired by the pleasure of being a fly on the wall yesterday at Fripp's European press conference. It would be difficult to imagine a more inspiring and coherent statement of the "current state of the artist".

But now, sag , sag, I must return to the mundane, and perform my duties as a governor of the local school.

21.45 pm. Success. I have managed to read Punk's corner, and what a seedy place it is. I quite agree with Barry Stock about the gentle waft of sleeze. It reminds me of the early web pages drafted by BootlegTV – without the humour. This is not a comment on the learned entries. Merely on the space itself.

22.05 pm. I am in agreement with JC (no relation) when he says "What do you do when you're caught between antiglobalist fantasies on the one hand, and visions of empire on the other? Well you do like I'm going to do and you're all going to do; you stare from the sidelines into an uncertain future hoping like hell that your leaders are a lot smarter than they appear from a distance." I am not naturally a pacifist, nor am I a warmonger. We all need to be aware of possible parallels with 1939 (Thank you Old Ears), and beware lest history repeat itself. I am an ageing child, who would hope for an adult debate where views can be formed. The most disturbing thing about this war is that even the politicians (in Britain, perhaps not in America) are saying that they have not been given sufficient information on which to make a decision. And, in theory at least, it is their decision that will count.

Although, in reality, is it not likely that decisions have already been made? The rhetoric has already reached a point where it is difficult to imagine Bush backing down. If there is a bully, it may be possible to control him without a direct punch up. Once you have challenged him to a fight, it is dangerous to back down, as this will make him far more powerful than if you had never approached him.

But this is all far too serious. How dare Brian use my link to generate pop up windows! If you would all like to push on the adverts surrounding this page, I will cry all the way to the bank.
